Title: The Origin Of Rice Destoner
Blog Entry: Rice is one of the staple foods in Nigeria and it is cherished by almost all the ethnic groups and it is prepared into various delicacies. Therefore introduction of an efficient and cost effective Rice Destoner (LIANGGONG) is the only option left for the present day rice farmers in Nigeria. This rice destoner operates on the principle of size, shape, density and bio-mechanical properties to separate rice grain from other impurities found in the composite. The post harvest existence of impurities in rice has led to several milestones in the invention and method of separating rice from its impurities. Rice destoning is as old as the history of man. Prior to the conception of machines for de-stoning, farmers had to hand pick or sieve manually. Not much work has been done and documented in the area of rice and stones separation in Nigeria. In 1976, Henderson & Perry designed a separator based on gravity and floating effect. It is made of a triangular shaped perforated table which has reciprocating motion that moves any material on it in the direction of conveyance as a result of the angle of gravity flow. This present design of rice destoner take advantage of its bioengineering properties which includes gravimetric properties, aerodynamic properties, frictional properties, rheological properties, mechanical and physical properties to separate rice from its impurities which is a more efficient method of destoning.
